Roundabout Benefit - Efficiency
The Federal Highway Administration designated roundabouts as one of nine proven safety counter measures. Roundabouts provide several benefits, such as:
•Without traffic signals, there is no cost for traffic signals and yearly maintenance.
•Intersection still operates in power outages, no need for law enforcement to direct traffic.
•Roundabouts can help improve sales at nearby businesses across the country as more people can walk or easily drive to locations compared to traditional intersections.
•Can act as a marker to a business or downtown district.

Roundabout Benefit – Improve Traffic Flow, Better for the Environment
Research shows that traffic flow improves after traditional intersections are converted to roundabouts. Less idling reduces vehicle emissions and fuel consumption. Roundabouts promote a circular flow of traffic, therefore there are no traffic lights to interrupt flow. Since traffic is constantly moving through these intersections, drivers don’t feel the need to accelerate to make it through a traffic light and through the intersection. #RoundaboutsWeek

Roundabout Benefit - Safer Traffic Signal Alternative
The tight circle of a roundabout forces drivers to slow down, and the most severe types of intersection crashes — right-angle, left-turn and head-on collisions — are unlikely. These types of collisions can be severe because vehicles may be traveling through the intersection at high speeds. With roundabouts, these types of potentially severe crashes are essentially eliminated because vehicles travel in the same direction and at low speeds. #RoundaboutsWeek
