Roundabout Benefit - Safer for Pedestrians
Pedestrians walk on sidewalks around the perimeter and cross only one direction of traffic at a time. Crossing distances are relatively short, and traffic speeds are lower than at traditional intersections. A single lane roundabout has 50% fewer pedestrian-vehicle conflict points than a comparable stop or signal controlled intersection. Conflicts between bicycles and vehicles are reduced as well. #RoundaboutsWeek
As we close #RoudaboutsWeek, the Florida Department of Transportation produced a video on pedestrian and bicycle benefits. Just copy this URL to check it out - https://youtu.be/8ORpNX_3Qn8?si=OHSBlue3oPUDO-ML
Be sure to attend the upcoming Public Information Workshop on Thurs, Oct 19 6-8pm to learn more about the St. Petersburg Drive Complete Streets Project, including a Roundabout planned for Bayview Blvd & St. Petersburg Drive. For details, visit Link in Bio.
Roundabout Benefit – Safety Counter Measures
The Federal Highway Administration designated roundabouts as one of nine proven safety counter measures. Roundabouts provide several benefits, such as:
• 30 to 50% increase in traffic capacity for intersection, less delay waiting at stops and signals.
• Roundabout islands can be landscaped with native plants and trees.
Roundabouts generally take less land than traditional intersections as they don't require turning lanes. #RoundaboutsWeek

DID YOU KNOW?
Worried about home leaks? The most frequent culprit is often right under your nose – your toilet! 🚽
Here's a quick DIY test: Drop a dye tablet or a few drops of food coloring into your toilet tank and wait just 15 minutes. If you spot any color in the bowl, guess what? You've got a leak!
But don't worry; it's usually an easy fix. Most toilet leaks happen at the overflow pipe or the flapper valve, both tucked inside the tank. Grab a new flapper and/or filling mechanism from your local hardware store or home center – they're usually under $15.00 each.
Roundabout Benefit - Efficiency
The Federal Highway Administration designated roundabouts as one of nine proven safety counter measures. Roundabouts provide several benefits, such as:
•Without traffic signals, there is no cost for traffic signals and yearly maintenance.
•Intersection still operates in power outages, no need for law enforcement to direct traffic.
•Roundabouts can help improve sales at nearby businesses across the country as more people can walk or easily drive to locations compared to traditional intersections.
•Can act as a marker to a business or downtown district.
